On the afternoon of September 19th, the opening ceremony of the “The Lines and The Present - Huo Dongze’s Art Exhibition”, hosted by Shaanxi Province Art Museum and co-organized by Xi’an Peihua University was held at Shaanxi Art Museum. This exhibition is the ninth exhibition of the “Young Artists Salon” series of Shaanxi Province Art Museum. Previously, the series has introduced many outstanding young artists in Shaanxi through exhibitions.

On behalf of Shaanxi Province Art Museum,Wang Xiao,vicechairman of Shaanxi Artists Association anddirector of Shaanxi Province Art Museum, expressed his welcome and gratitude to the leaders and guests who attended the opening ceremony! He said that in the context of the new era, the art museum has transformed into a diversified platform integrating collection, research, education and communication, and providing high-quality cultural services to the public. Shaanxi Province Art Museum actively helps the development of artists team in Shaanxi, and attaches special importance to the growth and display of young artists. Although the exhibition space is limited, it provides a broad stage for young artists for a whole month, encouraging them to create freely and organizeactivitiessuch as public art education, art sharing andinnovation activities, and provides online and offline platforms for publicity and promotion to expand influence. Huo Dongze is an excellent artist. His paintings are filled with deep emotions and the harmony of different colors, break the limitations of space, capture and show those delicate and unique perspectives in the complex and chaotic world. His keen observation has found rich colors, which are interwoven into unique compositions on the paintings. His works are not only highly decorative, but also reveal vibrant vitality when savored. The lines in Huo Dongze’s works seem random but full of spirit, and each line comes from instant perception and expression in his heart. This kind of artistic talent is not carved deliberately, but revealed naturally, which is the embodiment of his emotions, blood and cultural accomplishment.

Li Jie,dean of the School of ArtsatXi’an International Studies University and academic consultant of the exhibition, said that he and Huo Dongze have known each other for nearly two years and often exchanged views on artistic insights and creation. Although there are more and more excellent contemporary artists in Shaanxi, they are still insufficient in terms of publicity and resources. This exhibition aims to build a bridge to allow more people to learn, understand and accept contemporary art, thereby stimulating innovation in the field of art. However, as a region with a rich traditional culture, Shaanxi is deeply rooted with traditional artistic concepts, which has posed certain challenges to the promotion of contemporary art. Nevertheless, it is these challenges that make necessary the guidance of the public tograduallyunderstand and appreciate contemporary art. The advanced artistic concepts brought back by Huo Dongze from overseas and the unique perspectives of local artists have blended with each other, injecting fresh blood and vitality into the Shaanxi art industry. We would like to call on and encourage all artists to keep an open mind and dare to explore diverse forms of art creation and unique perspectives, so to jointly promote the prosperity and development of art industry by jumping out of the limitations of regional culture. This exhibition displays many works of Mr. Huo, from his study abroad to the recent period. I know Mr. Huo very well. His works are various in terms of forms and show his great artistic talent. He is not only an outstanding young teacher of Xi’an Peihua University, but also an outstanding young artist. Xi’an Peihua University has always attached great importance to the training of young teachers and has provided many platforms for them to show their talents. I am grateful to Shaanxi Province Art Museum for such a valuable platform of exhibition. This is not only a highlight in my artistic career, but also a review and summary of the artistic creation over the past 20 years. Since I returned to China, I have continuouslymade breakthroughsin artistic creation through unremitting efforts and continuous learning. Hao Yi, curator of Shaanxi Province Art Museum, presided over the opening ceremony
Hao Yi introduced that there have been nearly 300 works of different types on display since the first project for young artists.And all these works are of the artists from colleges and universities, and departments in art industry in Shaanxi Province, including young teachers, doctoral students, graduate students, and cultural workers from the grass-root units. This fully reflects the equality principle of this project and the responsibility and mission of ShaanxiProvince Art Museum as a national key art museum to provide artists with high-quality services. In this project, artists can display, communicate and discuss in a relaxed and pleasant way, allowing the audience to enhance the exchange of ideas and academic discussion with the artists while appreciating the works. This series ofexhibitionsfor young artists displays more than 20 works that Huo Dongze has created in recent years, including abstract paintings,equipment, and interactive video. His works combine the oriental humanistic sentiment of Chinese ink and wash with western abstract painting. He gave up the restrictions of regular painting, created freely on the canvas with“lines”after continuous trying and experimenting, to show his free attitude towards life.
Seminar
After the opening ceremony, nearly thirty experts, scholars and young artists attended the art seminar and expressed their views on Huo Dongze’s artworks and contemporary art creation.
This exhibition will run until October 13th, and during the exhibition period, there will also be salon activities such as artist sharing sessions and guided tours of artworks.
