On November 14, 2025, the “Spanning Three Decades, Voices Conveying New Power” 20th Anniversary Exchange and Sharing Session for the Broadcasting and Hosting Arts major of Xi’an Peihua University was held in the auditorium of the Mingde Building. The event invited Li Ruiying, a Senior Announcer of China Media Group and former anchor of CCTV’s Xinwen Lianbo (CCTV News) as well as former Director of the Broadcasting Department, who has been associated with the University for over thirty years, to return to Peihua as a featured guest speaker. She delivered a high-level academic and intellectual experience to more than 300 faculty members and students in attendance.

The event was attended by Chen Aimei, Chief Announcer of Shaanxi Radio and Television Station and member of the 9th and 10th Shaanxi Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference; Bao Zhijian, Chief Announcer of Shaanxi Radio and Television Station and recipient of China’s “Golden Microphone” Award for Broadcasting and Hosting; Yan Yining, former Deputy Director of Xi’an Radio and Television Station, Second-Level Professor, and Chief Announcer; Jiang Bo, Chairman of Xi’an Peihua University; Yao Wenjing, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice President of the University; as well as relevant heads of the School of Media and Design, the Women School, and Party Committee’s Publicity Department, along with alumni, full-time faculty, and student representatives from the Broadcasting and Hosting Arts major. The event was hosted by Jia Dengyin, a teacher from School of Media and Design.

The event commenced with the recitation of a heartfelt letter. Titled “Teacher Li, Looking Forward to Meeting Again in 30 Years,” the letter—jointly drafted by 693 students majoring in Broadcasting and Hosting Arts and 39 faculty members—was recited collectively by teachers and students, drawing everyone’s memories back to the starting point three decades ago. The sincere emotions and earnest hopes deeply moved every listener, vividly illustrating the profound impact of a teacher’s exemplary influence.

Chairman Jiang Bo Delivered the Welcome Address

Chairman Jiang Bo affectionately recalled the profound friendship with Li Ruiying that has spanned three decades. He mentioned that the late President Jiang Weizhi had once earnestly invited her to give a lecture at the university. Thirty years later, Li Ruiying’s return to Xi’an Peihua University has become a cherished chapter in the university’s educational history. Chairman Jiang Bo emphasized that her revisit not only affirmed the university’s achievements in education but also provided students with a valuable platform to connect with the forefront of the industry. He sincerely invited Li Ruiying and other experts and scholars in the broadcasting field to frequently visit Peihua for guidance, and to continue supporting the cultivation of talent in media-related majors. He expressed hope that their support would help the university achieve further glory as it advances toward its centennial celebration. Meanwhile, he encouraged all Peihua students to stand on the shoulders of giants, adapt to the needs of future industries, and make remarkable contributions in their respective roles, living up to the expectations of both the times and the university.

Li Ruiying Delivered a Keynote Lecture

Before the start of the lecture, Li Ruiying fondly recalled her two previous visits to Xi’an Peihua University to deliver lectures. The challenging conditions of the early years stood in stark contrast to today’s vibrant environment. She expressed heartfelt delight at the remarkable achievements in the University’s development and was equally pleased with the excellent facilities and resources now available for the Broadcasting and Hosting Arts major. She stated that she would actively contribute high-quality educational resources to inject new vitality into the major’s growth, supporting Peihua in cultivating more journalism and communication professionals who possess both moral integrity and professional competence, and who are capable of undertaking the mission of national rejuvenation.

During the lecture, with her calm and amiable voice, Li Ruiying began by sharing insights from her long-term career as a CCTV news anchor, initiating a profound dialogue on language expression and the mission of news communication for the attending teachers and students. She emphasized that excellent language expression is by no means an overnight achievement; rather, it is built upon a solid foundation of the “Four Competencies”—a concept highly aligned with the Marxist perspective on journalism, which underscores the necessity for journalists to possess political awareness, professional skills, and a strong sense of responsibility.

Drawing on her years of professional experience, she elaborated on the concrete implications of the “Four Competencies” through personal example. “Footwork” refers to the self-motivated initiative to engage deeply at the grassroots level and stay close to the people. “Eye-work (Perceptiveness)” denotes the keen insight to observe the times and grasp the essence of issues. “Mental-work (thinking agility)” represents the cognitive ability to analyze problems using dialectical materialism and historical materialism. “Pen-work (Writing ability)” is the skill to translate thoughts into vivid expression, ensuring that the Party’s message is deeply understood and is embraced by people.

Li Ruiying placed special emphasis on her most profound insight: “Attitude determines everything.” She believes that skills can be trained, but sincerity and a sense of responsibility cannot be feigned. The audience can keenly sense whether a communicator is dedicated and genuine. This very attitude, she noted, is an inherent requirement of the Marxist perspective on journalism.

When discussing presentation techniques in front of the camera, she advocated for a style of “sincerity, naturalness, conciseness, and clarity” in language. Using classic examples from her own broadcasting career, she demonstrated how to deliver rigorous news scripts with both authority and approachability. On the non-verbal level, she vividly illustrated the power of “silence speaking louder than words”—a firm gaze, a knowing smile, or an appropriate gesture can often convey warmth and conviction more effectively than speech itself. Li elevated her years of practical experience to a theoretical level, emphasizing that all personal expression must adhere to the principles of media communication. Guided by the Marxist perspective on journalism, mastering these principles is not about pandering but about more effectively conveying truth and spreading positivity. It ensures that individual voices, amplified through media, genuinely serve the people and the times, achieving resonance and comprehensive development in harmony with society and the grand endeavor of national rejuvenation.

Bao Zhijian, Chief Announcer of Shaanxi Radio and Television Station; Yan Yining, Former Deputy Director of Xi’an Radio and Television Station and Chief Announcer; and Chen Aimei, Chief Announcer of Shaanxi Radio and Television Station, Offered Commentary.

Following Li Ruiying’s lecture, several esteemed seniors from the broadcasting industry in Shaanxi took the stage one after another, sharing their experiences and offering heartfelt advice to the students. They unanimously encouraged the young learners to build a solid foundation in basic skills, make good use of the excellent platforms established by the university, and strive to develop themselves into versatile talents who can meet the demands of the times.

During the course presentation segment, students from Xi’an Peihua University performed a recitation of an excerpt from “The Grand Mansion Gate” and a dubbing showcase based on a clip from “Medal of the Republic,” demonstrating their solid professional foundation and youthful vitality. Following the presentations, Li Ruiying provided professional commentary on the performances. She acknowledged the students’ potential while also offering constructive suggestions, reflecting both her earnest care for the professional growth of young learners and her adherence to rigorous standards.

Afterwards, five student representatives took the stage one after another to practice news reading. Through precise adjustments to sentence stress, rhythm, breath control, and emotional delivery, Li Ruiying, along with Bao Zhijian, Chen Aimei, and Yan Yining, vividly demonstrated the professional realm of “mastery revealed in subtle details.” This presented an unforgettable masterclass for all the teachers and students in attendance.

During the interactive session, students, alumni, and faculty representatives enthusiastically raised questions on topics such as professional learning, career planning, and industry trends. Li Ruiying and the distinguished guests provided patient and insightful answers, clearing the path for the students’ growth and earning waves of warm, sincere, and enthusiastic applause from the audience.

In November 1999, Li Ruiying Was Once Again Invited to Peihua to Deliver a Special Report

Li Ruiying’s return and heartfelt sharing added a significant chapter to the twenty-year development of the Broadcasting and Hosting Arts major at Xi’an Peihua University. The event featured a rich array of activities, including master lectures, demonstration teaching, and heritage performances, all of which vividly showcased the educational achievements and dynamic vitality of the major.
