On the afternoon of October 29th, the plaque unveiling ceremony for the “Bethune Spirit Education Base” was held in the third-floor conference hall of the library at the Chang’an campus of Xi’an Peihua University. The event was attended by Major General Yuan Yonglin (former president of the Bethune Spirit Research Association and former Deputy Minister of Health at the General Logistics Department of the People’s Liberation Army), Major General Mu Guangtai (Vice President of the Association and former Director of the Ningxia Armed Police Hospital), Executive Vice President Chen Tianping (former Deputy Director of the Combat Logistics Bureau of the Armed Police Force), Vice President Dong Shukui (former Director of the Laboratory Center at the Second Artillery Corps General Hospital), Vice Secretary-General Liu Jiantao (Executive Vice President and Office Director), as well as invited experts, including Professor Hu Jihong (Clinical Testing Center of the National Health Commission) and Professor Wan Haiying (Tongji Hospital, Shanghai). The event was also graced by Dr. Jiang Bo, Chairman of Xi’an Peihua University, Dean of the School of Medicine Hu Guodong, Party Secretary and Vice Dean for Administration Shi Lijun, Vice Dean for Teaching Wang Juning, Vice Party Secretary Wang Jiangru, Director of the Medical Laboratory Department Su Mingquan, Leader of the Medical Laboratory Department Zhao Ya, and faculty and student representatives. The ceremony was hosted by Dean Hu Guodong.

Dr. Jiang Bo, Chairman of Xi’an Peihua University, delivered the welcome speech, reflecting on the university’s long tradition of medical education. He expressed that the “selfless spirit of ‘never seeking personal gain, but working solely for the benefit of others,’ as well as the meticulous craftsmanship embodied in Bethune’s commitment to excellence, aligns perfectly with the University’s mission of ‘nurturing talent and serving society.’ ” He emphasized that the University will treasure this honor, make the best use of the base, and integrate Bethune’s spirit deeply into the entire educational process of cultivating moral integrity and fostering talent, striving to train more medical professionals with great love and excellent skills for the health sector.

Dong Shukui, Vice President of the Bethune Spirit Research Association and former Director of the Laboratory Center at the Second Artillery Corps General Hospital, highly praised Xi’an Peihua University for its significant achievements in medical talent cultivation and cultural development. He expressed hope that the University would leverage the influence and leadership of the base to the fullest.

Following the plaque unveiling, Chen Tianping, Executive Vice President of the Bethune Spirit Research Association and former Deputy Director of the Combat Logistics Bureau of the Armed Police Force, delivered a keynote speech. He systematically reviewed the formation process and core essence of the Bethune Spirit and, in light of the current needs of the medical and health sector, explained its timeless and enduring value. He encouraged the medical students to take Dr. Bethune as a model for their lives, adhere to their professional vows, hone their skills, and embody the noble spirit of “respecting life, saving lives, being willing to sacrifice, and boundless love” through their actions.

The successful approval and unveiling of the “National Bethune Spirit Education Base” marks a new milestone in the development of Xi’an Peihua University’s medical education.
