Sharpening Skills, Competing in Style | Peihua Students Won Prizes in Provincial Higher Vocational Institutions Skills Competition

From May 6th to 9th, Li Anqi, deputy director of the Department of Nursing of School of Medicine, Zhang Liyuan and Liu Qingmei, and teachers of Nursing major, led the students to participate in “Nursing Skills” competition in the 2023 Shaanxi Higher Vocational Colleges and Universities Skills Competition held in Xianyang Vocational and Technical College. The team of Peihua students,Tang Huan and Wu Qian, won the third prize of the competition with their excellent skills.


The competition includes theory competition and skill competition. There are two tracks for the skills competition: the first track is Rescue of patients with respiratory arrest, which assesses the participants clinical thinking and decision-making ability, emergency care and teamwork ability; the second track is Airway care for patients with stroke tracheotomy, which assesses the participants airway management ability, critical thinking ability, nurse-patient communication and humanistic caring ability. With solid theoretical knowledge, Skilled operations and tacit teamwork, Peihua students won the good results with stable performance.

The achievement is inseparable from the great attention and support of the school and the leaders, the serious counseling of the instructors and the hard training of the contestants. The executive vice dean of School of Medicine, Mr. Hu Guodong, came to the pre-competition training, and he pointed out that the nursing skills competition not only improves the nursing operation ability and comprehensive quality of students, but also is a test of the quality of teaching and reflection on the teaching method, which will help to improve the overall level of nursing practice teaching.



The competition demonstrated the high professional skills and professionalism of Peihua students, and enhanced the further understanding of medical school teachers on promoting teaching and learning through competition. The university will also take this as an opportunity to explore deep into the teaching principles,  and continue to promote the reform of education and teaching based on teaching practice.
