Physical Education of Xi’an Peihua University started in the 1930s, and the School of Physical Education and Sports was established in 2020. The school adheres to the philosophy of “educating people with sports, cultivating people with culture, cultivating people with virtues,  cultivating all-round talents”, and takes “respecting virtues, enjoying learning, respecting talent and supporting innovation” as the principle, and takes students as the center. The school aims to cultivate applied technical talents who are loyal to the Party’s education cause, love physical education, have all-round development in morality, intellectuality, physical fitness, aesthetics and labor, and are capable of engaging in the teaching and research of basic physical education, as well as sports management. It has established partnership with Shaanxi Sports Science Society. It chairs National Private College Sports Union, Shaanxi Basketball Association Professional Committee. It is also the excellent member of Shaanxi Higher School Sunshine Sports.

The school consists of Physical Education Teaching Department, College Sports Teaching Department and Comprehensive Office, which undertake the teaching tasks for Physical Education majors and Public Physical Education, as well as the related work of physical fitness tests, “sunshine” sports, sports training and competitions for all students. Based on the university’s application-oriented curriculum construction, the school keeps promoting the ideological and political education in curriculum, deepening the educational and teaching reform, and implementing the teaching mode of “five-dimensional integration”. In recent years, a total of nine courses, including softball, fitness and aerobics, table tennis, sports dance, basketball, etc., have been appraised as applied courses of the school and the university. The School of Physical Education and Sports explores the new mode of talent cultivation to follow the development of the times, and meet the needs of the society and the industry, by running the school openly, and creatively establishing “369” school-government, school-enterprise, school-school cooperation.

Focusing on the goal of talent training, the school actively creates examination platforms for students to obtain professional qualifications for referees, coaches etc., and practicing licenses for professions such as social sports instructors. At present, seven programs have established training bases with provincial and municipal sports associations, and have carried out in-depth integration of sports and education with Shaanxi Shooting and Archery Sports Management Center and Shaanxi Sports Management Center of Pingpang, Badminton and Tennis, which provides a good platform for the students’ practice and employment.

There are 85 full-time and part-time teachers in the school, including 35 associate professors or above, 7 industry experts, 13 doctors (including doctoral students), 2 national-level referees, 28 national first-level referees, and 13 “dual-qualified” teachers. It has sound faculty structure and qualified teachers.

The school now has a 400-meter standard track and field (with a soccer field), a multi-functional gymnasium, a yoga training room, a taekwondo training room, an aerobics training room, a sports dance training room, a swimming pool, a fitness gym, a ping-pong training room, a martial art sparring training room; there are also more than 80 various types of sports venues; it also has a number of laboratories for sports health care, sports anatomy and sports physiology and multimedia classrooms. The teaching conditions are excellent and the teaching environment is beautiful.

The School of Physical Education and Sports actively carries out all kinds of teaching practice and “sunshine” sports activities. 13 teams of martial arts, taekwondo, aerobics, sports dance, etc. built by the school have won many awards in various sports competitions at all levels, which strengthens the friendly exchanges among universities, and pushes forward the vigorous development of the university’s sports education. As specialty and popular sports in the university, basketball and rope skipping have achieved fruitful results, and rope skipping team won a number of medals in national competitions. In the 2020 Shaanxi Provincial Rope Skipping Games, the team won 29 gold medals, 12 silver medals and 3 bronze medals, and in the 2022 Third China University Online Intelligent Rope Skipping Challenge, the team won 4 gold medals, 6 silver medals and 9 bronze medals. In recent years, the school has successfully organized competitions like the 12^th “Peihua Cup” Innovative Basketball Tournaments and Shooting Grand Prix, creating 3 Guinness World Records for ultra-long-distance shooting, and 15 world records for ultra-long-distance shooting. It also hosted many events at the national and international level such as the Yao Foundation “Hope Primary School Basketball Season” Event, 2019 “One Belt, One Road” China Taekwondo Open Tournament and 2019 International Women’s Marathon, the National Youth Judo Championships, and the 2020 World Multi-cultural Taekwondo Selection Tournament (Shaanxi Station). .

The School of Physical Education and Sports makes great efforts to ensure the quality in teaching, scientific research, mass sports and sports training, and attaches importance to innovation as well. I strives to cultivate applied and technical sports talents to serve the economic development of the western region of China, and has set up a three-step development strategy. The School of Physical Education and Sports will continue to deepen the reform of education and teaching, accelerate the pace of the construction and development of physical education and sports, and strive to bring the school’s physical education and teaching to a new level in the new era.
