1. History
Women School of Xi’an Peihua University was established in June 2010. Its history can be traced back to 1928, when Ms. Wu Yunfang, who graduated from Beijing Women’s Normal School, established the Xi’an First Women Civilian Vocational School in Xi’an through the collaboration with celebrities in the education community in Shaanxi. With 95 years of education, we have accumulated rich experience in women’s education and cultivated a large number of outstanding female talents for society.
2. Basic Information
Women School of Xi’an Peihua University provides an important platform for inheriting the tradition of women’s education of our university, and also a forefront for educational reform and innovation. In order to inherit the spirit of women’s education, we aim to cultivate female talents with self-respect, self-confidence, self-reliance, and self-improvement, as well as enhance female leadership. Our goal is to cultivate composite female talents with an international horizon, innovative spirit, and a high sense of social responsibility. There are currently 20 full-time teachers in the Women School, including 2 with senior professional titles, 10 with intermediate professional titles, and 8 with junior professional titles; 15 of them have obtained master’s degrees, 5 have bachelor’s degrees, and 2 are currently pursuing doctoral degrees. Women account for 95% of the faculty, and the leaders are all female. Teachers of Women School are dedicated, united, cooperative, honest, trustworthy, and ready to give. They are committed to the education in the fields of teaching, scientific research, and social practice, and have made quite many achievements. They have outstanding performance compared with those in similar positions, thus having significant influence and good reputation in the university.
3. Educational Effects
Women School adheres to the original aspiration, keeps pace with the times, always explores and innovates. In the past five years, the “Women’s Class” of the Women School has admitted a total of 2,480 students, covering 34 majors. It builds a curriculum system that integrates general education course, core major courses, and extracurricular courses (i.e. 1+2+N). “1” refers to the public restricted course Social Gender Culture opened for all students in the university; “2” to a series of courses on female leadership and personal ability enhancement and career development for female class students; and “N” to a practical courses for female class students, such as yoga and etiquette. The aim is to cultivate female talents with advanced gender concepts, international vision, innovative spirit and a high sense of social responsibility, who have “self-respect, self-confidence, self-reliance and self-improvement”, and can achieve successes in their work places, and be skillful in family management and family education. A group of female graduates have made outstanding contributions in various sectors.
In recent years, five bases, including “Shaanxi Women’s/Gender Research and Training Base,” “Shaanxi Social Science Popularization Base (Women’s Development and Gender Equality),” “Basic National Policy Popularization and Training Base for Gender Equality,” “Shaanxi Female College Students Entrepreneurship and Employment Training Base,” and “Shaanxi Women’s Maker Space,” have been examined and named by the Shaanxi Women’s Federation, Shaanxi Social Science Federation, and Shaanxi Government Women and Children’s Working Committee. These bases cover gender research, social science popularization, innovation and entrepreneurship, and maintained high-level, wide-range, and practice-orientation in expanding the educational space and improving the educational quality. Cooperating with these bases, the school held over a hundred lectures, seminars, social practices, and volunteer service activities. In 2021, due to its fruitful results, it successfully passed the acceptance evaluation of the “Social Science Popularization Base” of the Shaanxi Social Sciences Federation and was ranked excellent.
The school applied for more than ten scientific research projects of the China Women’s Research Association, Shaanxi Women’s Federation, Shaanxi Social Sciences Federation, and carried out exchanges and established partnership with various women’s colleges of the China Women’s Higher Education Alliance, contributing to local economic, social, and cultural development and women’s education in Xi’an Peihua University. Since 2017, it applied for a science popularization fund of 65,000 yuan for 7 science popularization projects of Shaanxi Social Sciences Federation, and 2 scientific research projects with a fund of 25,000 yuan, totaling 90,000 yuan. The research paper “On the Implementation of the Basic National Policy of Gender Equality in Shaanxi Universities - Taking the Practice of Shaanxi # # University as an Example,” received approval from the Chairman of the Shaanxi Women’s Federation and was published in Peihua Journal. It undertook three forums, conferences, training, and book compilation projects organized by the Shaanxi Government Women and Children’s Working Committee to promote the basic national policy of gender equality in colleges, with a total budget of 310,000 yuan, all of which have been completed.
In 2017, Xi’an Peihua University signed the first five-year strategic cooperation agreement with Shaanxi Women’s Federation and deepened the cooperation on this basis in 2023. The signing of the second strategic cooperation agreement marks a broader cooperation space for women’s education in our university.
4. Foreign Exchange and Cooperation
Women School conducted international exchanges on the implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, Program of Action, Beijing Declaration, China Women’s Development Outline (2021-2030), and Shaanxi Women’s Development Plan (2021-2030) in China. In cooperation with international organizations such as the China International Civil Society Cooperation Promotion Association, the UN Women’s Office in China, and the International Plan, it has organized the “Hefoushe” Launching Ceremony in Western China, the “International Girls’ Day” themed events, and “Social Gender Training”. It also actively participated in various cultural and educational forums of the Silk and Road Expo organized by the Shaanxi People’s Government and China Women’s Federation. It received many delegations and trainees from France and countries along the the Belt and Road .
5. Volunteer Service
The school focuses on cultivating students with citizenship awareness, and organized volunteers to participate in public welfare activities like tree planting and donations, visit left- behind children in difficult situations, and carry out legal awareness activities in colleges, communities, rural areas, and households. In the fight against the COVID-19, it organized students to participate in online volunteer service for local children, and trained women’s leadership in the project-oriented, long-term and institutionalized volunteer service, which was praised and affirmed by the Chang’an District Party Committee and other government departments. It also organized campaigns to raise people’s the awareness of “children first”, providing “0-3 years old” and “3-6 years old” care guidance and parent-child education for children and parents in local areas, and providing high-quality educational resources such as “Children’s Safety Class”, “Don’t Ruin My Childhood”, “Rural Children Free from Sexual Assault”, “I am a Little Host”, “Inheriting Traditional Culture and Intangible Cultural Heritage”, “Going Far Away”, and “Children Enjoy Zero Domestic Violence” for children aged 6-12. At present, the “Little Egret Children’s Service Station” in Huangfu Village, Chang’an District was named “Children’s Home” by the Chang’an District Civil Affairs Bureau. A new practice base has been established in Wangqu Village, with over 500 volunteers from the school, as well as social work graduate students from Northwest Polytechnical University, Northwest University, and Shaanxi Normal University providing volunteer services here. The students of Women School who have been providing volunteer services at these two service stations on long-term basis won the provincial bronze medal in the 8th China International “Internet +” College Students Innovative Entrepreneurship Competition, adding brilliance to the ideological and political education of Women School and the civilized practice of the new era.
