This event was jointly organized by Reference News, the Shaanxi Center of the Xinhua News Agency Information Center, and Xi’an Peihua University, aiming to bring authoritative news resources to colleges and universities and explore a new model of collaborative education between the media and higher education institutions.

Liu Feng, Secretary of the Party Committee of Xi’an Peihua University, delivered a welcome speech.
In his speech, Liu Feng stated that the “Boundless New Voices” event represents an important practice of collaboration between mainstream media and universities in nurturing talent. On behalf of the university, he extended a warm welcome and sincere gratitude to the distinguished guests from Xinhua News Agency and Reference News. He noted that Xi’an Peihua University, founded in 1928, has changed its name nine times and relocated seven times, and will celebrate its centennial in 2028. As an application-oriented private university rooted in the Sanqin region (Shaanxi Province), the university’s admission score cutoff ranks among the top of similar institutions in the province for several consecutive years, and the number of its graduates securing civil service positions has ranked in the province’s top ten for three straight years. Currently, the university is advancing five major initiatives—including discipline optimization, teaching quality enhancement, and industry-education integration—driven by the goal of strengthening its undergraduate programs and applying for master’s degree authorization. He expressed his hope to take this event as an opportunity to deepen media-university cooperation with Xinhua News Agency, allowing mainstream voices to reach and inspire young minds, and to spread the century-old story of Xi’an Peihua University further and louder.
He Yan, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Reference News, delivered a
speech.
In his speech, He Yan spoke highly of Xi’an Peihua University’s educational history and its red revolutionary heritage. He noted that since its founding in 1928, Peihua has accumulated a profound cultural legacy, particularly the establishment of a Party branch as early as 1938—a red legacy that has been passed down through generations, resonating with the over 90-year red revolutionary journey of Reference News. Founded in 1931, Reference News has always served its readers with a unique and irreplaceable role, serving as an important window for the Chinese people to understand the world. He expressed his hope to take this event as an opportunity to deeply integrate Xinhua News Agency’s authoritative resources with Peihua’s century-old heritage, jointly carrying forward the red revolutionary legacy and helping young students strengthen their convictions and broaden their horizons.

The gift subscription ceremony
The two sides held a gift subscription ceremony for the digital edition of Reference News. The digital newspaper subscribed through this ceremony will be made available to students of Xi’an Peihua University. Through this authoritative international news publication, students can stay informed about major global events in a timely manner, access in-depth reports from diverse perspectives, and develop their ability to discern information and think critically while broadening their international outlook. Reference News hopes that through this initiative, it can help Peihua students maintain sound judgment amidst the flood of information and grow into new-era talents with both a sense of national commitment and a global vision.
Du Yuanjiang, Deputy Director of the English Editorial Department of Reference News, delivered a thematic lecture.
After the gift subscription ceremony, Du Yuanjiang, Deputy Director of the English Editorial Department of Reference News, delivered a thematic lecture titled “The US-Israel-Iran War Shakes the World – Understanding the Changing Middle East Landscape and US Strategy through Reference News.” Drawing on the reporting perspectives and in-depth analysis of Reference News, he dissected the current complex geopolitical dynamics of the Middle East. He encouraged Peihua students to live up to their youthful potential, stand on higher ground, aim high, and cultivate a global vision; to master their skills, become self-reliant, and strive to become pillars of the nation.

During the interactive session, Zhang Wenhui, a student from Class 2303 of Drama, Film and Television Literature, asked: “In news writing, how can one strike a balance between subjective consciousness and objective reality?” Drawing on his years of frontline reporting and editing experience, Du Yuanjiang replied that excellent news writing should be based on respect for facts and cross-verification from multiple sources. His answer drew repeated rounds of applause from the audience.
