1. Introduction to the University

Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics (KCGI) is Japan’s first IT professional graduate school. Its predecessor, Kyoto Computer Gakuin (KCG), was Japan’s first private computer education institution. Building on information technology education and incorporating international business education, KCGI has established an educational system based on the revised Information Systems (IS) master's curriculum of the ACM (Association for Computing Machinery). This system aims to cultivate professionals in e-commerce, especially Chief Information Officers (CIOs).

As a "broadly defined IT" professional graduate school, KCGI is committed to becoming a world-class "specialized graduate school" and focuses on developing students' leadership skills. Unlike many Japanese universities’ "single-field" graduate schools in information engineering or informatics and mathematics, KCGI is distinct in its approach. The curriculum and faculty are designed from an educational perspective, with student-centered instructional design and an open educational system that regularly assesses learning outcomes. This incorporates elements and measures rarely seen in Japanese universities, reinforcing KCGI’s unique educational framework.

Furthermore, KCGI actively nurtures business professionals and international leaders with IT and management skills who can excel in Asia and around the world. The university also welcomes international students and has been dedicated to becoming "Asia’s top IT specialized graduate school" since its establishment. Through strengthened collaboration and exchange, KCGI has built a strong network with higher education institutions in the United States, China, South Korea, and other countries. Currently, it has established partnerships with over 100 higher education institutions. In terms of enrollment capacity in informatics graduate schools, KCGI ranks among the top in Japan.
