
1. University Profile
Meikai University was established in 1970 in Sakado City, Saitama Prefecture, and is commonly referred to as “Meikai University.” Its predecessor was Jōsai Dental University. In April 1977, the university established the Institute of Dental Science. From its founding, Meikai University has adhered to its founding philosophy of “cultivating capable individuals for the future international community” and began preparations to become a comprehensive university at an early stage. In 1988, it established the Faculty of Foreign Languages and the Faculty of Economics, officially changing its name to Meikai University. Later, in 1992, it established Japan’s first Faculty of Real Estate Science. In April 1998, the Urayasu Campus introduced master’s programs such as the Graduate School of Applied Linguistics, the Graduate School of Economics, and the Graduate School of Real Estate Science. Subsequently, in April 2000, doctoral programs were added to the Graduate School of Applied Linguistics and the Graduate School of Real Estate Science. In April 2005, the university also established Japan’s Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management. Since its inception, Meikai University has actively engaged in international exchanges based on its founding spirit of “cultivating capable individuals for the international community.” In 2022, the university hosted a total of 489 international students from countries such as China, Vietnam, and South Korea.
