Charles Darwin University (CDU), located in northern Australia, is the only university in the Northern Territory. Its origins date back to 1950, and it was officially formed in 2003 through the merger of the Northern Territory University and the Menzies School of Health Research. Named after the renowned British biologist and founder of the theory of evolution, Charles Darwin, the university is one of the few higher education institutions in Australia that truly embraces departmental diversity and provides opportunities for senior secondary education.
CDU has established partnerships with universities in 18 countries worldwide, attracting a diverse student body from across the globe. With a total enrollment of approximately 24,000 students from over 60 ethnic backgrounds, the university fosters a rich multicultural environment.
The mission of Charles Darwin University is to serve as the primary institution for education, training, research, and technology in the region while also becoming a global exporter of education in specific fields. The university’s international development strategies and activities are overseen by an international committee composed of senior academic and research staff.
