The 9th Chinese & South Korean Costume Culture Seminar was Held by Xi’an Peihua University

As culture are known un-bordered and art would never be outdated, in order to promote the cultural communication, reinforce the bilateral relations between China and Korea, and collaboratively make the improvement of costume culture between the two countries, the 9th Chinese & South Korean Costume Culture Seminar, which was sponsored by the Consulate General of South Korea in Xi’an and undertaken by Xi’an Peihua University, was held at the Lawn Stadium of Xi’an Peihua University on June 10th, 2021. The guests seated and discussed together about the evolution and development of costume culture in China and South Korea, including Kim Byung Kwon, the consul general of the consulate general of the Republic of Korea in Xi’an; Tan Li Lung, the consul general of the Consulate General of Malaysia in Xi’an; Som Visal, the consul general of the Consulate General of the Cambodian Consulate General in Xi’an; Ms. Worarat Piriyanasorn, the deputy consul general of the Thai Consulate General in Xi'an;Jiang Bo, the member of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC of Shaanxi Province, Vice Chairman of the Shaanxi Provincial Committee of Zhi Gong Party, President of Xi'an Peihua University; Liu Yuelian, the vice President of Xi’an Peihua University; Yao Wenjing as well as other headsof the university, and scholars, from Ewha Womans University and Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts.

According to Jiang Bo, Xi’an Peihua University has committed to establish a positive sino-foreign association in the last 93 years. It is not only a strong consent for how meticulously the anti-epidemic work was done from the campus to the country, but also an inspiration to the foreign friends to hold the Chinese & South Korean Costume Culture Seminar in outdoors. ThePresident also sincerely hoped to reinforcethe communication in education, culture and medical aspects between the university and the Republic of Korea, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia as well as other foreign friends. The communities shall collaborate and fight against COVID epidemic.

The consul general, Kim Byung Kwon, indicated that the holding of the seminar was meaningful especially in such a historical city.The year2022 is the 30th year since the establishment of diplomatic relation between China and South Korea, and the seminar, as a key part of communication between the two countries, would be an opportunity for residents from the two countries to better understand the foreign culture,andenhance the communications. He also hoped that all parties would pay more attention totheir interest in Korean cultureby studying Korean clothing and enhance association between the two countries.

Lee Jun Shu, professor of Department of Apparel Industry of Ewha Womans University, had a presentation on the topic of “The Probabality of K-Fashion”.The aim is todiscover methodsthat could be combined with classic Korean elementsin typical Korean style. Therefore, the beauty of K-fashion could be preserved.

Qiang Gao, vice professor of department of clothing in Xi’an Academy of Fine Art, explained how the innovations wereachieved in designing Chinese modern clothing, which shows theessence of design and other aspectsof Terracotta Warriors of Qin Dynasty.

Chinese & South Korean Costume Culture Seminars had been successfully held since thepast 5 years in Peihua University. The Seminar not only provided an opportunity for both countries to share their culture to deepen the relations, but also promoted collaboration and communications, which reinforced the understanding between residents from the two countries, so that the friendship between people would be evencloser. As the key component of “ strengthening the ties between the two countries”, the seminar allowed young students to understand how fascinating the costume cultureisin the history of the two countries, and reveal theessence of costume culture in two countries, which would promote the development of costume culture simultaneously. In the end, we could betterpreservetradition in both China and South Korea.
