The results of the 12th "Yuanye Award" International Competition for University Students were announced recently. The work "Elderly Nursing Home - NPC Late Stage Special Chemotherapy Space Design" by Pei Jie, a student majoring in architecture in our school, won the Honor Award Architectural Design in the direction of curriculum design.
“Yuanye Award”is an international landscape design competition organized by the Asian Landscape Architecture Association and the Yuanye Award International Landscape Architectural Competition Organizing Committee, and undertaken by CHLA and the World Landscape Committee which has a wide range of influences in the industry. The purpose of this competition is to promote the harmonious development of the landscape architecture and architectural design industry, improve the innovative awareness and design level of professional students, activate the learning atmosphere, showcase the students’ demeanour, and provide graduates with a comprehensive display of talents and a platform for mutual learning and communication. “Yuanye Award” Landscape Architecture (Graduation Works, Thesis) International Competition is cooperated by nearly 20 domestic and foreign landscape architecture-related professional colleges and departments, they are College of Landscape Architecture, Beijing Forestry University, College of Landscape Architecture, Nanjing Forestry University, College of Horticulture and Forestry, Huazhong Agricultural University, Department of Jingdu and Capital Institute of Chaoyang University of Science and Technology, Taiwan, Department of Horticulture, Chiba University, Japan, Department of Environmental Landscape Architecture, Gangneung University, South Korea, and Chinese Landscape Architecture Initiated by the Internet, the School of Architecture and Urban Planning of Chongqing University and the Department of Landscape Architecture, School of Architecture and Urban Planning, Tongji University, etc. The entry works will be publicized in relevant colleges and universities, also will be exhibited on the China Landscape Architecture Network. Besides, the winning works and papers will be edited and published as well.
In 2020, with the strong support of participating universities, nearly 10,000 teachers and students from 431 separate domestic and abroad universities have signed up for the competition. More than 20 universities and design institutions have held award-winning works tour exhibitions, which has further promoted inter-university and inter-regional exhibitions. As well as international professional exchanges, the quality of entries works and papers have been continuously improved, compound and innovative talents have been cultivated and selected to meet the needs of industry development, promote the continuous improvement of education level, and the employment of graduates students.
Our school’s award-winning work "Elderly Nursing Homes-NPC Late-stage Special Chemotherapy Space Design" focuses on the serious social problem of aging and realizes the importance of nursing homes. The highlight of this recuperation space is to combine break-down cure facilities and the green courtyard, aiming to provide the elderly a reassuring and psychologically shelter, maximizing the sense of home and belonging. Let the old people have their own space and life in their twilight feel with ease and stay away from the hustle and bustle.

Design concept source: Pei Jie has a deep feeling for her grandfather. She wants to design the architectural space he needs from the perspective of relative’s concern. The space requirements of the elderly are different from those of the ordinary public’s. They must have a barrier-free design that conforms to the behavior of the elderly, so as to ensure the daily safety of the elderly and also provide them with the warm feeling of the family.
