2021 marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, and September 30 is the eighth Martyr’s Day established by the country. In order to cherish the memory of the revolutionary martyrs and carry forward the great Party building spirit and the spirit of patriotism, teacher Zhao Yan (School of Marxism, Xi'an Peihua University) led seven students, including Zhao Weiling, Huang Yi and Gao Xingrui, to Xi’an Martyrs Cemetery on September 30 to participate in the Public Sacrifice of Martyrs in Shaanxi Province and Xi’an city. In this event, Peihua teachers and students mainly undertake volunteer work such as presenting flowers to the martyrs, supporting the families of the martyrs and receiving in the VIP room.
In order to successfully complete this work, a team of teachers and students arrived at the Xi’an Martyrs Cemetery at 2 pm on the 28th for rehearsal work. Under the guidance of Section Chief Liu of the Commendatory Section in Xi'an Martyrs Cemetery, the students had a clear division of labor and performed their duties. The teachers and students arrived at the Martyrs Cemetery on time at 8 am on September 30 and rehearsed the two activities again. It was precisely because of the meticulous rehearsal and drills of Section Chief Liu, Teacher Zhao and seven students that ensured the smooth development of the Public Sacrifice of Martyrs at 10 o’clock on September 30.
After the event, the teachers and students were very fortunate to interview retired old revolutionary comrades. The old soldiers told the teachers and students some scenes of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea and the Self-defense Counterattack Against Vietnam as well as comradeship developed at that time. They also praised and encouraged the students to do more things that are meaningful to society like today, telling students that only by doing more good deeds can they be magnanimous and selfless. The old soldiers noted that practicing the spirit of volunteerism is to pass on the revolutionary spirit and it can help students better understand the great party-building spirit in practice. After having a close, face-to-face dialogue with the veterans and the families of the martyrs, the students said that such interviews and listening make them more deeply aware of patriotism and admire revolutionary heroes!
Teachers and students all said that through this activity, they have tempered their abilities, increased their knowledge, sensed thoughts and feelings, and passed on the spirit. The harvest is great and meaningful!
