On the morning of June 8th, the exchange meeting of Review and Evaluation of Undergraduate Education and Teaching of Xi’an Peihua University was held in the Conference Hall on the fourth floor of Mingde Building. Professor Kong Jianyi, group head and former party secretary of Wuhan University of Science and Technology; Professor Zhu Jiacun, vice group leader and former vice president of Anhui Normal University; Professor Xu Xuqing, former president of Zhejiang Shuren University; Professor Jiang Yajun, vice president of Xi’an International Studies University; Professor Zhang Ronggang, vice president of Northwest University of Political Science and Law; Professor Kong Linggui, vice president of Shandong Union College, and Professor Zhang Xinmin, deputy director of Henan Provincial Education Evaluation Center; Professor Zhang Baoxin, director of the Academic Affairs Office of Xi’an Institute of Physical Education, its project manager Li Yunfu and its secretaries Wang Shuyan and Liu Ruojiang; Xu Fei, deputy director of Western Higher Education Evaluation Center, other relevant leaders of Shaanxi Provincial Department of Education, as well as all heads of secondary schools, functional departments, and teacher representatives of Peihua University attended the meeting.
At the beginning of the meeting, Kong Jianyi, the head of the expert group provided feedback on the overall review and evaluation of education and teaching work in Peihua University on behalf of the expert group. Since May 15th, the expert group has conducted a comprehensive inspection of undergraduate education and teaching work in Peihua University over a period of four weeks, three weeks involving online interviews, attending lectures and reviewing materials, and three days (from June 5th to 7th) involving offline interviews, attending lectures, reviewing materials, visiting public facilities, inspecting internship bases and employing units. The expert group fully affirmed the affection, commitment, dedication and diligence displayed by the teachers and students, and unanimously believed that Peihua University adheres to establishing virtue and cultivating talents, the teaching reform of “Jiang Weizhi Class” has achieved significant results, the innovation and entrepreneurship education is effective, and graduates have a good social adaptability. The talent cultivation goals are in line with the positioning of the university. The infrastructure meets the teaching needs, and the faculty construction proves to be continuously strengthened. Multiple measures were taken to carry out ideal and belief education, and a quality assurance system has been newly constructed. The teaching achievements started to emerge, and the outstanding effectiveness of the mechanism of “promoting the construction and reform of teaching through evaluation” is becoming visible.
Kong Jianyi emphasized that Peihua University should further form a consensus across the university in terms of improving top-level design, strengthening the optimization of the faculty structure, increasing investment in education, implementing effective learning atmosphere construction, , further cultivating teachers’ professionalism and students’ motivation by deepening the reform and improving institutional mechanism, so as to continuously improve the quality of undergraduate education and teaching.
The review and evaluation expert group comprehensively made a thorough diagnosis to the undergraduate education and teaching work of Peihua University, providing targeted experience and suggestions for the cultivation of applied undergraduate talents in the university. The members of the expert group upheld a highly responsible attitude towards the university, adhering to problem orientation, and aiming to identify and solve the problems. While affirming the achievements of the university’s undergraduate education and teaching work, they conducted the review and evaluation from five aspects: the university’s positioning and social adaptability, the achievement of education goals, faculty and infrastructure guarantee, the effectiveness of the operation of quality assurance system, and the satisfaction of students and employers. They provided specific opinions and practical suggestions from the perspectives of educational direction and undergraduate education positioning, faculty construction, teaching effectiveness evaluation, quality assurance system construction, teaching resource investment, learning atmosphere construction and talent cultivation process.
On behalf of the university, Jiang Bo, the chairman of Peihua University, expressed gratitude to the expert group for their valuable opinions and suggestions, and stated that Xi’an Peihua University will cherish the valuable opportunity of this review and evaluation, implement the policy of “promoting construction through evaluation, promoting reform through evaluation, promoting management through evaluation, and promoting strength through evaluation”. The university will sincerely accept all the opinions and suggestions, analyzing and studying them seriously. Practical measures shall be taken with strong determination to work on the rectification, so as to do well in the second half part of review and evaluation, and further improve the quality of talent cultivation and educational level.
In the future, after seriously studying the experts’ suggestions, Xi’an Peihua University will consolidate an ideological consensus across the university, strengthening the responsibility, highlighting the problem orientation, adhering to the fundamental task of establishing viture and cultivating talents, further deepening the undergraduate education and teaching reform to ensure the high-quality completion of rectification tasks, improve the overall quality of education and teaching, and accelerate the construction of a high-level applied university that is trustworthy to the government and satisfactory to society.
