The Oracle tablets donation ceremony and the Oracle bone script objects exhibition were held in Art Gallery of Xi’an Peihua University on October 27th. Wang Zhongyi, a private collector and the former secretary general of the Association of Science and Technology of Hanyin County, Ankang City, Shaanxi Province, along with his wife, Chen Zhaoru; Jiang Bo, board chairman of Xi’an Peihua University; Qin Haifeng, president assistant of Peihua University; Liang Rui, deputy executive dean of School of Humanities and International Education, as well as representatives of teachers and students, participated in the ceremony, which was hosted by Liu Yu, dean of Publicity Department of the CPC Committee of Peihua University and director of Alumni Service and Development Center.
At the event, Wang Zhongyi, a folk oracle researcher, donated nearly 50 pieces of oracle tablets to the university for the research and popularization of the oracle.
In his welcoming speech, Jiang Bo, board chairman of Xi’an Peihua University expressed his gratitude to Mr. Wang and his wife for their donation. He said that it is extremely difficult for a person to do one thing well in his whole life, and Mr. Wang deserves our admiration for his devotion to the research and popularization of the oracle bone script, for it is a very “lonely” job. Jiang urged that the oracle bone script, as a treasure of Chinese traditional culture, should be an important part of colleges and universities, classrooms and textbooks in various forms, and traditional culture research and education should be actively carried out so that young people can intuitively feel the charm of traditional culture. He also encouraged Peihua teachers and students to actively conduct scientific research on the oracle bone script and apply for science popularization projects to form high-level scientific research results.
In his speech, Mr. Wang reviewed his 60 years of hard work in oracle research and introduced the digital collection of oracle bone script objects that he had studied himself. He thinks that, as priceless treasures of Chinese traditional culture, the oracle bone script shouldn’t be kept private but to be introduced into common people’s lives in a new digital and intelligent way. He also summarized that Chinese language, Chinese language family and Chinese written language are the “troika” of Chinese nation. Finally, he suggested that in the future, researchers should stand on his shoulders and never stop the studies of oracle bone script.
To show respect, Qin Haifeng awarded Mr. Wang a donation certificate on behalf of Peihua as a commemoration.
Before the end of the ceremony, Liu Yu, dean of Publicity Department, praised Mr. Wang’s work for the fact that he had found a new and convenient way for the public to learn and study oracle bone script, which had brought a new life to such cultural symbols and promoted Chinese people’s cultural confidence. We should be grateful for his generosity and selflessness, and we should take over the burden of researching and popularizing oracle bone script, and carry forward the national symbol of oracle bone script.
After the event, the participating leaders, teachers and students visited the physical exhibition of oracle bone script objects under the guidance of Mr. Wang.
It is reported that Peihua would take this donation as an opportunity to carry out multiple measures to promote oracle bone script research and popularization, unveil a series of studies results, and cultural products, etc. so as to create a stronger atmosphere of traditional Chinese culture for the purpose of educating and cultivating young people in the new era..
