Zhao Yimin, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Gave a Lecture at Xi’an Peihua University

On the afternoon of October 12th, Xian Peihua University Masters Lectures”-Anniversary Academic Lecture Series was held in the Lecture Hall of Weizhi Library. Prof. Zhao Yimin,  expert in stomatology and academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, was invited to the university to give an academic lecture on Dancing with People -- Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow of Medical Robotics. Jiang Bo, chairman of the Board of Directors of Xi’an Peihua University;  Yu Guoliang, vice president of Xian Peihua University; Prof. Hu Guodong, executive vice dean of the School of Medicine; Wang Pingan, secretary of the Party Committee, as well as more than 500 representatives of teachers and students attended the lecture, which was hosted by Prof. Hu Guodong, executive vice dean of the School of Medicine.

Mr. Jiang Bo, chairman of the Board of Directors of Peihua University, expressed his gratitude to Prof. Zhao Yimin, saying that Peihua has nurtured a number of outstanding young people in the past 95 years through thick and thin. In the future, Peihua will strengthen the learning concept of lifelong learning, embracing the society and the masters on the basis of inheritance, and stand on a new starting point, in the witness of the times, dreaming of a new journey and striving for a hundred years.

Academician Zhao Yimin started the lecture with the story of the creation of robots in the science fiction novel by Czechoslovakian writer Karel Čapek. He shared his interpretation of four categories of medical robots: surgical assist robots, rehabilitation and nursing robots, diagnostic and monitoring robots, and intelligent autonomous surgical robots. He pointed out that medical robotics is a multidisciplinary research field with a wide range of research contents, and its features of dexterity, personalization, telematics, intelligence, and presence are bound to achieve wider application in the medical field. Medical robots have solved the problem of the limitations of human eyes, human hands and manpower through the linkage and application of control system, mechanical operating system and imaging system. However, with the continuous progress and development of technology, intelligence, autonomy and refinement have become the new direction for the development of future medical robotics technology.

Vice President Yu Guoliang pointed out in his concluding remarks that in the era of rapidly developing science and technology, medical students should not only have the knowledge of one single subject, but also attach importance to the leadership of master teachers, study diligently and master more suitable learning methods; medical educators should further clarify the positioning of medical personnel training in the context of the new medical science and level up the path of medical personnel cultivation, and cultivate outstanding medical talents in the new era.

The lecture played a positive role in promoting the active academic atmosphere on campus, enhancing the understanding of teachers and students of professional knowledge, while creating an opportunity for students to deepen their insights, improve their literacy, broaden their thinking, internalize their aesthetics, and strengthened their professional ideals and beginnings. In the near future, the university will also organize academic forums in the fields of Chinese excellent traditional culture, film and television communication and rural development, and high-quality development of private higher education, to build a platform for friendly exchanges, to pay tribute to the 95th anniversary of the university, and to continue to write this chapter of the times.

Background:

Zhao Yimin, expert in prosthodontics, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; rank of major general; professional and technical level III; director of the State Key Laboratory of Military Stomatology; professor, chief physician, doctoral supervisor of the School of Stomatology of the Air Force University of Military Medicine and acting president of the Fourth Military Medical University. He has won one first prize and two second prizes for national scientific and technological progress, three first prizes for military scientific and technological progress, authorized 15 national invention patents, and edited the national planning textbook Prosthodontics. Zhao Yimin created an intelligent simulation restoration technology system for facial defects and established a systematic technique for reconstruction of masticatory function after jawbone defects, which significantly improved the quality of patients survival and has become an international common technology. He invented an autonomous dental implant robot, which established a new mode of dental implantation with intelligent and precise implantation and immediate restoration, and created the discipline of maxillofacial prosthodontics in China, which is now ranked among the international advanced ranks.
