Tian Qingsong, second-level researcherofthe Media Organization Management and Foreign Cooperation and Exchange Department of the Shaanxi Provincial Radio and Television Bureau, pointed out that telling the story of China well requires revitalizing rural culture, and more importantly, finding and discovering beautiful villages from an international perspective. Filming rural landscapes and documenting local customs in the form of microfilms and short videos is beneficial for local economic development and the prosperity of Chinese rural culture.
Dr. Jiang Bo,chairman of Xi’an PeihuaUniversity, stated in his speech thatthe supportfromvarious sectors of societyis indispensable toPeihua’s development,whichneeds to be based on the land of Sanqin(Shaanxi)and the construction of agriculture, rural areas, and farmers. Two thirds of Peihua students come from rural areas, so teachers and students in theuniversity pay close attention tothe construction and development of beautiful countryside. Tang Jun, researcherofthe School of JournalismofFudan University, gave a speech on why the beautiful country has become an Eden fortheurbanite today. He stated that the concept of“countryimage”has truly developed in recent years. Hecombed the“countrysymbolization”from three levels:“the materialimagespace of nature,”“the spiritualimagespace”and“the open and flowingimagespace”. He called for the production and dissemination of modern country imageto reject grand narratives and return to personalized emotional experiences.
Professor Lin Baogang,dean of the School of Art at Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology, discussed withaudiencethe topic of“Why is it easy to shape a beautiful countryside but difficult to create a soul?”He stated that rural areas are the root of China, and the core issue to be addressed in the construction of beautiful country is“beauty” itself. The image’s presentation of the countryside is specially processedandfragmented, and itis the“wedding dress”of rural areas. This requires deeper layers of cultural explorationand emotional devotioninto our image production.
Mr. Chen Fei, director and writer from mainland China,madea discourse on why directors are unwilling to direct, actors are unwilling to act, screenwriters are unwilling to write, and companies are unwilling to invest inruralfilmsbased on the reality. He stated that the production of ruralfilmsmust be based on establishing a deep connection with the land. Rural areasprovideinnate high-quality resources and low-costlaborsto enable young people to fulfill their aspirations. He called on Peihua students to lead the art trend with high standards.
Peihua teachers and students discussed the issue of“how to specifically engage in rural image production”withtheguests, and experts provided full and comprehensive answers.
