On July 25, 2024,the exhibition of lacquer painting of“The 14th National Exhibitionof Fine Arts, China 2024,Celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China”opened in Wuhan. It was hosted by Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China, China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and China Artists Association, and undertaken by Hubei Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism and Hubei Federation of Literary and Art Circles.
National Exhibition of Fine Arts, held every five years, is the largest national comprehensive exhibition of fineart with the widest participation, the widest variety of works and greatest influences.Modern lacquer painting,originated from traditional lacquerware craftsmanship, has a long history. Sinceit wasofficiallyset up as anindependent exhibition areainthe 12th National Exhibitionof FineArt,more and more teams have participated inlacquer painting, among which young and middle-agedartistshave gradually become the mainstay. With a richer variety of its themes,lacquer paintinghasshowna vigoroustrend.
In this exhibition, totally 1,963 pieces (sets) of lacquer paintingswere received fromall over the country.After preliminary and re-evaluation by the review committee,only 198 of them were selected, among which was thelacquer painting“Prayer”bya teacher named Jia Yali of the Arts and Crafts major from School of Communication and Art Design of Xi’an Peihua University.

It has succeeded not only in pursing the beautiful artist form, but also in constructing connotation, making itself reach a high artistic level in terms of the creation of mood, quality, and forms. School of Communication and Art Design attaches great importance to teacher training and subject-specifictraining,and continuously strengthens habit-formation education, practical education and excellent traditional cultural education, so that teachers cando careful studyof teaching, improve th eteaching level, and foster students’ virtue through education by insisting student-centered principle while being“Four Guides”of students. On this basis, the professional technical capabilities of art teachers are sorted out, and different mentor studios are established to enable teachers to effectively broaden students’ horizons whilebeing“Four Guides”of students.In art education, teachers can cultivate students’ creativity and innovation, create a good academic atmosphere, and shape new generation of the era in tangible and intangible ways.
In recent years, School of Communication and ArtDesign has heldaround10 exhibitions of its students’worksin Xi’an Museum of Contemporary Art, South Gate StoreofZhongda International, Yitian Holiday Plaza, Longhu(Xi’an) Xingyuehui shopping mall, etc..Its students have applied for more than 100 college student innovation and entrepreneurship projects with more than 700 students participating, and won more than 20 awardsofprovinciallevel orabove.More than 1,000 studentsof the Schoolhave participated in the“Internet +”project, and won 454 awardsinacademic competitionofprovinciallevel orabovewith746students participating.The number of all kinds of awardswon by students of the School have steadily increased year by year.
It is reported that the 14th National Exhibition of Fine Artsopenedin May 2024, and exhibitions of different categories have been held in many cities and art galleries across the country, including Chinese painting, oil painting, printmaking, sculpture, watercolor and pastel painting, murals and other exhibition areas, which fully demonstrated the latest achievements and highest level offine arts creation of China.

Jia Yali, female,earned hermaster’s degree in art design major from Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts. She is a member of the Shaanxi Artists Association, Xi’an Artists Association, Lacquer Painting Art Committee of the Xi’an Artists Association, and a member of the Board of the Xi’an Lacquer Art Association. She is currently the head of the Arts and Crafts major at School of Communication and ArtDesign in Xi'an Peihua University, a mentor for college students’ innovation and entrepreneurship projects, and a teacher with two qualified professions.
With her guidance,students’workshave wonawards ofnational and provincial levelsmany times, andstudents’projects have been approved asinnovation and entrepreneurship projectsat the provincial level. One of herpersonal works,“Deeper Night”,was selected for the 5th National Exhibition of Lacquer Painting.Another work,“Concentration”,was selected for the 1st Shaanxi ExhibitionofLacquer Painting, themed“BestLacquer Paintingin Qin”. Her work“Harmony” was selected for“the Gansu, Shaanxi, and Shanxi Invitational Exhibition of Lacquer Paintingin Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Reform and Opening-up”. She has also published many papers inher professional field.
