In the warm April sunshine, with the spring breeze gently brushing and the peaceful passage of time, the Peihua campus is filled with the sounds of reading and the lingering fragrance of ink. Between the yellowed pages liesthe wisdom of the ancients, and beneath the faded covers pulses immortal inspiration. The words, worn by time, are now awakening in a brand-new form at the fingertips of eager students.

On April 8, the “Old Books, New Knowledge ·Literary Xi’an” event, guided by the Publicity Department of the Xi’an Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China and jointly organized by the Publicity Department of the Xi’an Chang’an District Committee and Xi’an Peihua University, was successfully held. The event, through exhibitions, interactive activities, and reading sharing, deeply integrated old book culture with campus culture, offering a unique cultural feast for teachers and students. The event was hosted by Jia Deyin, a faculty member from the School of Media and Design.
The event was attended by representatives from the Publicity Department of the Shaanxi Provincial Committee, the Publicity Department of the Xi’an Municipal Committee, Xi’an Radio and Television Station, Xi’an Daily Newspaper Group, the Xi’an Municipal Education Bureau, the Publicity Department of the Chang’an District Committee, as well as representatives from universities in the district. Also present were Jiang Bo, Chairman of Xi’an Peihua University,Liu Feng, Party Secretary, and faculty and student representatives from the university.

Yang Liping, Deputy Director of the Publicity Department of the Xi’an Municipal Committee and Director of the Xi’an News Publishing (Copyright) Bureau, expressed her gratitude to the university for hosting the event. In her speech, she highlighted that the “Old Books, New Knowledge ·Literary Xi’an” event is an important initiative to promote urban cultural development. The goal is to invigorate the city’s cultural vitality through the circulation of old books and the sharing of knowledge, making the fragrance of books a cultural hallmark of Xi’an. She also emphasized that holding this event at a university further stimulates the reading enthusiasm of both faculty and students, contributing to the development of a book-loving campus.

In his speech, Jiang Bo, Chairman of Xi’an Peihua University, introduced the university’s rich history, highlighting its “seven relocations and nine name changes”. He emphasized that reading plays a crucial role in building a book-loving society, deepening national reading activities, spreading thought and culture, enhancing national literacy, inheriting national spirit, and nurturing civilized customs. Xi’an Peihua University has always been committed to cultural inheritance, talent cultivation, and the creation of a book-loving campus, guiding and nurturing individuals with refined, excellent culture. He noted that this event provides a platform for faculty and students to gain knowledge and information, grasp ideas and wisdom, and elevate their spiritual and personal development. It also injects new vitality into the university’s campus culture construction.


The event featured 20 exhibition sections, including old book literature, ancient book reading, and red classic works, showcasing a large collection of valuable ancient texts and classic books. This allowed faculty and students to experience the weight of time and the charm of culture through reading.

At the same time, Xi’an Peihua University specially exhibited historical materials, women’s education, and cultural creative products, showcasing the historical changes and cultural heritage of the university over the past century. These exhibits illustrated the emotional resonance between the city and the university, as well as the century-long mutual watch and connection between the school and the city.
The classic reading of “The Rejuvenation of the Nation is in My Hands” expressed the determination and perseverance of Peihua faculty and students in dedicating themselves to the socialist cause. The reading shares of “Finding Light in the Folds of Time” and “The Lotus Has a Heart, Passing the Light for a Thousand Years” conveyed the power of books and the warmth of spirit through personal reflections on reading.

After the event, the attending leaders visited the exhibition panels on-site and toured the university’s history museum and the Tiananmen Red Flag from the 100th Anniversary of the Founding of the Communist Party of China. They gained a deeper understanding of the university’s development history and its focus on red education.
This event provided all faculty and students with convenient access to books and excellent reading materials, building a bridge connecting history with the present, and knowledge with practice. It allowed participants to experience the deep cultural heritage of China and further met the spiritual and cultural needs of the faculty and students. The event also set up a second-hand book trading area, encouraging faculty and students to practice a low-carbon lifestyle and promote the sustainable use of old book resources.

It is reported that this event is the third in the “Old Books, New Knowledge ·Literary Xi’an” series, a part of the initiative to revitalize the second-hand book market, organized by the Publicity Department of the Xi’an Municipal Committee in line with the requirements of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee and the Shaanxi Provincial Committee. Following the successful New Year old book exhibition and the “Into the Lantian Market” event, which received positive social feedback, this visit to Xi’an Peihua University not only continues the “Old Books, New Knowledge ·LiteraryXi’an” series but also represents a deep dialogue between culture and campus, offering faculty and students a new cultural experience and intellectual inspiration.
The event encourages universities across Xi’an to leverage their own resources and actively carry out the “Old Books, New Knowledge ·Literary Xi’an” initiative, sparking a reading craze on campuses and allowing the fragrance of books to permeate every corner of university life. The initiative will continue to connect with more universities and communities, using books as a medium and culture as a guide, contributing to the ongoing effort to build a culturally rich and book-loving Xi’an.
