On August 15, 2022, the 2022 Silk Road Education Cooperation Expo, sponsored by People’s Government of Shaanxi Province and hosted by the Education Department of Shaanxi Provincial Government and relevant universities, opened in Xi’an. Liu Yuelian, Vice President of Xi’an Peihua University, and Wang Peng, Director of International Exchange Center of Xi’an Peihua University, attended the opening ceremony.
Guo Qing, Vice Chairman of Standing Committee of Shaanxi Provincial People’s Congress, attended the ceremony and delivered a speech. Jia Peng, Deputy Director-general of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchange of the Ministry of Education, delivered a speech online. Israeli scientist Dan Schechtman, Nobel Prize laureate, delivered a video message. Abdumurzhaev, education counsellor of the embassy of Kazakhstan in China and Wang Yongli, Vice President and Secretary General of China Education Association for International Exchange, and other leaders and guests attended the ceremony and delivered speeches. Jia Peng pointed out that the education initiative to promote the Belt and Road should adhere to the goal of high standards, sustainability, and benefit for people’s livelihood and the theme of high-quality development. The Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges of Ministry of Education would support Shaanxi to give full play to its own advantages, accelerate and expand the opening of education to the outside world, deepen international exchange and cooperation in education, and help Shaanxi to promote the high-quality development of education.

Dan Schechtman said that the Expo attracted experts and scholars from more than 100 Chinese and foreign universities, who discussed international cooperation and other major topics. He said that this open-ended communication provided a platform for dialogues to address major topics common to human society, and was particularly important for promoting high-quality development of education, science and technology.
Wang Yongli, Vice President and Secretary General of China Education Association for International Exchange
Wang Yongli said that China Education Association for International Exchange, with the spirit of extensive consultation and determination of joint construction, would strengthen cooperation with all parties and jointly promote the construction of the Silk Road to go deeper with solid steps and high quality development.

This year’s Silk Road Education Cooperation Expo is themed by Embracing the Silk Road and Winning in the Future. There are 23 supporting activities in total, and more than 7,000 guests from over 70 countries and regions such as Germany, France and the Netherlands are expected to participate the Expo online and offline.
