On the evening of October 26th, the celebration of Xi’an Peihua University’s 95th anniversary took place in the university’s gymnasium, featuring a special ethnic music concert presented by the Ethnic Symphony Orchestra of Xi’an Conservatory of Music. The concert delivered an unparalleled audio-visual feast to both faculty and students, resounding with birthday hymns in honor of Peihua’s 95 years of establishment. More than 2,000 faculty and students, including President Li Yingfang, Vice President and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee Yao Wenjing, attended this remarkable performance.
The Scene of the Event
In this concert, the orchestra performed passionately, combining vocals with the orchestra and instrumental ensembles. Carefully selected classic pieces were played with heartfelt dedication by Peihua’s faculty and students. The “Celebration Overture”, as the opening piece, seized the audience’s attention with its generous and stirring momentum, marking the commencement of this musical journey. “The Colorful Cave Dwellings” depicted the lively imagery of the folks from northern Shaanxi through its gentle and melodious melodies. “Guan Ju”, with its beautiful and graceful tunes, celebrated innocent love and people’s pursuit of beauty and upward aspirations. The robust and vigorous “Bow Dance” vividly showcased distinctive ethnic characteristics. “The Everlasting Shandandan” told the story of the land in an epic musical language. The passionate and stirring “My Motherland” deeply conveyed strong patriotic ideals. The familiar tune of “Heroic Song”, grand and fervent, ignited everyone's passion for music.
“The Hundred Birds Paying Homage to the Phoenix” showcases the beautiful scene of hundreds of birds chirping in unison, expressing people's admiration and love for nature.
“The Favorable Timing, Geographic Advantage, and Harmony Among People” was fresh, vivid, and brimming with deep emotions, praising affectionately the splendid landscape of our motherland and the national spirit.
“The Soaring Dragon and the Leaping Tiger” intertwines the main melody with the resounding beats of drums, profoundly stirring the heart, vividly portraying the vibrant spirit of the people, as dynamic and vigorous as a dragon and a tiger, forging ahead courageously.
The Northern Shaanxi folk songs “Walking to Sanbian” and “Herdsmen Coming” convey regional culture through sound and narrate stories of the times through music.
The bamboo flute and orchestra performance of “Emotions of the Qin River” carries distinct regional operatic characteristics, showcasing the western style and the rugged and unrestrained character of the people of Shaanxi across the vast expanse of the Qin River.
The Live Performance of the Concert
The melodious instrumental performance resonated profoundly, extending contemplative thoughts throughout the venue. The entire audience surged with the musicians on stage, collectively immersed in the world of music. Thunderous applause blended seamlessly with the symphony, allowing every individual to experience a spiritual connection with the flowing notes while basking in the charm of the symphony. Finally, the concert concluded amidst a full-house chorus performance of “Me and My Motherland”.
The symphony “Me and My Motherland” began playing, prompting all faculty and students to rise and sing together, expressing boundless love for our motherland!
The performance lasted for an hour and a half, during which the musicians of the symphony orchestra captivated the entire audience with their splendid performance, solid musical skills, and dedicated spirit, earning rounds of applause. The grand and magnificent instrumental ensemble resonated with the hearts of every audience member, inspiring fellow students to forge ahead with vigor and determination!
